The above image was found by doing a search for “Save the Environment” and selecting one of the results shown. The puzzled reader may ask, what does “Saving the Earth” have to do with Isaiah 24? Good question!

The earth dries up and withers;

    the world languishes and withers;

    the heavens languish together with the earth.

The earth lies polluted

    under its inhabitants,

for they have transgressed laws,

    violated the statutes,

    broken the everlasting covenant.

Isaiah 24:4-5 NRSVUE

We are told that mankind is responsible for polluting the environment of the Earth by doing industrial production, generating tons of waste, and other activities. But what we are not told by the radical environmentalists is that from the point of view of YHVH, our sins pollute the earth! We even pollute the heavens!

Laws and sins are defined by the Mosaic Covenant given at Mount Sinai.

Searching the scriptures shows that there are a number of references to the everlasting covenant in different contexts.

David perhaps put it best:

He is the Lord our God;

    his judgments are in all the earth.

Remember his covenant forever,

    the word that he commanded for a thousand generations,

the covenant that he made with Abraham,

    his sworn promise to Isaac,

which he confirmed to Jacob as a statute,

    to Israel as an everlasting covenant,

saying, “To you I will give the land of Canaan

    as your portion for an inheritance.”

I Chronicles 16:14-18 (see also Psalm 105:7-11)

The best thing humanity can do for the environment, for the earth and heaven, is to repent of transgressing the laws, violating the statutes and breaking the everlasting covenant. Clean up activities then will be more successful and have more lasting effect.

But, on this theme of repentance, if we continue reading the 24th chapter of Isaiah, we encounter this passage:

They lift up their voices; they sing for joy;
    they shout from the west over the majesty of the Lord.

Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord;
    in the coastlands of the sea glorify the name of the Lord, the God of Israel.

From the ends of the earth we hear songs of praise,
    of glory to the Righteous One.

But I say, “I pine away;
    I pine away. Woe is me!
For the treacherous deal treacherously;
    the treacherous deal very treacherously.

Isaiah 24:14-16 NRSVUE

There are only two communities worldwide found in the coastlands at the ends of the earth in both east and west that praise the name of the Lord, the God of Israel: Jews and Christians. Both houses have their sects and denominations, and both houses have their treacherous ones who transgress the laws, violate the statutes and break the everlasting covenant. All MUST repent and return.

Refusal to repent and return is going to lead to this great shaking of the earth:

Terror, the pit, and the snare

    are upon you, O inhabitants of the earth!

Whoever flees at the sound of the terror

    shall fall into the pit,

and whoever climbs out of the pit

    shall be caught in the snare.

For the windows of heaven are opened,

    and the foundations of the earth tremble.

The earth is utterly broken;

    the earth is torn apart;

    the earth is violently shaken.

The earth staggers like a drunkard;

    it sways like a hut;

its transgression lies heavy upon it,

    and it falls and will not rise again.

Isaiah 24:17-20 NRSVUE

This description of the windows of heavens opening and the violent shaking of the earth looks a lot like Ezekiel 37:7 and the sixth seal in Revelation 6:12-14 which I discussed in a previous article, “The Two-Part Rapture: The Sixth Seal and the Gathering of the Elect“. Specifically, the opening of the windows of heaven looks like it parallels the “sky vanished like a scroll rolling itself up” (Rev. 6:14). I also wonder if this shaking of the earth will also result in a change in the orbital path of the Earth around the Sun such that the annual orbit will decrease from 365.25 days to an exact 360 day orbit and the moon returns to an exact 30 day orbit. Of course, we’ll not find out until this event happens. It does occur to me that if the calendar is reset to 360/30 then it will become trivial to watch the 42 months/1260 days, etc, and then there will be no excuse not to be awake and watching when the time draws nigh.

Speaking of the time drawing nigh, the final note from Isaiah 24 that I wish to bring to your attention is that Isaiah provides a time marker pointing to the fall.

For thus it shall be on the earth

    and among the nations,

as when an olive tree is beaten,

    as at the gleaning when the grape harvest is ended.

Isaiah 24:13 NSRVUE

I am not the first to point this out. Steve Moutria at torahfamily.org has made numerous YouTubes over the years discussing the importance of the grape harvest as a time marker. Briefly, the grape harvest runs from June through September. Yeshua’s Second Coming is tied to the Fall Feasts of Yom T’ruah (better known as Rosh HaShanah), Yom Kippur, and Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles).

To wrap this up, judgment is coming upon all the inhabitants on the Earth because of all our sins. The environment reflects our sinful habits and nature. By the time that the Lord of Hosts completes His judgments, it will be in the fall of the year and at or towards the end of the grape harvest.

We MUST repent and return to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to the Holy One of Israel!!!
